The Casio Exilim EX-Z75 is a follow-up to the company's budget-priced Exilim EX-Z70. The 7-megapixel shooter is essentially identical to the EX-Z70 except for its slightly larger 2.6-inch LCD screen. The EX-Z75 has the same sensor, a 3x lens, digital image stabilization, and 34 scene settings.
The EX-Z75 is a good candidate for users looking for a compact, inexpensive camera, but it's not the only choice out there. While aging, the 6-megapixel Canon PowerShot SD600 remains one of the better compact budget cameras on the market. If you want a current, 7-megapixel camera, the upcoming 7-megapixel Olympus FE-240, the Pentax Optio M30, and the Canon PowerShot A550 offer similar features at similar prices. Of course, the EX-Z70 itself might also prove a viable alternative; when the EX-Z75 hits stores, its predecessor will probably see a price cut.
When we tested it, we were disappointed by the EX-Z70's soft, artifact-filled images and slightly awkward power button. If Casio corrects these problems for the EX-Z75, it might shape up to be a very good compact shooter.
The $230 camera might be worth a look when it hits stores in March, though current EX-Z70 owners shouldn't feel the need to step up. The EX-Z75 will be available in blue, pink, black, or silver.
